Details and purpose of the role

Join the BBC National Orchestra of Wales (BBC NOW) to lead delivery of the BBC NOW Connect programme, enabling the Orchestra to enrich lives across Wales through inclusive access to orchestral music. You will be key in supporting engagement in communities with limited access to the arts. Combining music education expertise, project management and interpersonal skills, the role designs and delivers learning activity, builds partnerships, and supports arts & health, education and talent development as one of two education producers.

Why join the team

Join a team dedicated to making orchestral music accessible, relevant and impactful across Wales. You’ll collaborate with passionate musicians, partners and communities to create meaningful cultural experiences that broaden access, support young talent and improve wellbeing. This is a role with real purpose, offering opportunities to shape innovative programmes, build lasting partnerships and develop your skills in a supportive, creative environment with national reach and social impact at its core.

Your key responsibilities and impact

  • Lead the planning, delivery and evaluation of BBC NOW Connect activity across regional hubs and national programmes, aligned to strategic priorities.
  • Design and deliver high-quality, inclusive learning and engagement projects, both live and digital, that broaden access to orchestral music.
  • Build and sustain strong partnerships with communities, education, arts and health organisations across Wales.
  • Support the development of young people and progression routes into music, contributing to the talent pipeline in Wales.
  • Collaborate with musicians to co-create community-led activity, including residency models and long-term engagement programmes.
  • Manage project budgets, resources, safeguarding, logistics and stakeholders to ensure activity is delivered on time, on budget and to BBC standards.
  • Embed effective monitoring and evaluation, using insight to demonstrate impact and continuously improve programme delivery.

Your skills and experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience designing and delivering high-quality learning or engagement activity in an arts, cultural or education setting.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to plan, prioritise and deliver complex programmes on time and within budget.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage, influence and collaborate with diverse groups.
  • Experience of building and maintaining effective partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders and communities.
  • A strong commitment to broadening access, inclusion and diversity, with understanding of how to reduce barriers to participation

Desired but not required:

  • Experience working with orchestras, musicians or within the classical music sector.
  • Knowledge of the education landscape in Wales, including music services and curriculum developments.
  • Experience delivering projects in arts & health or wellbeing settings.
  • Experience developing digital learning content or working across digital platforms.
  • Experience of monitoring and evaluating projects to demonstrate impact and inform future development.

If you can bring some of these skills and experience, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.
